Lanes restricted on Iowa 9 bridge in Dickinson County

CHEROKEE, Iowa – July 31, 2009 –  Bridge maintenance work will restrict the Iowa 9 bridge west of Iowa 86 in Dickinson County to one lane beginning Monday, Aug. 10, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Cherokee construction office.

Traffic will be assisted through the work area by temporary traffic signals. The open lane will have a 12-foot lane width restriction with a six-foot granular shoulder. The lane closure is expected to be in place until mid-November, weather permitting.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
