U.S. 69 restricted to one lane in Decatur County beginning Tuesday
CHARITON, Iowa – Aug. 28, 2009 – Lanes on U.S. 69 in Decatur County will be restricted by road construction beginning Tuesday, Sept. 1, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Chariton construction office.
The road construction will intermittently reduce U.S. 69 to one lane from Decatur County Road J-22 south to Lamoni. When lane closures are in place, traffic will be assisted through the work area by flaggers and a pilot car. The work is expected to be completed by mid-September, weather permitting.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
