CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Sept. 30, 2009 – Construction work will require lane closures on Interstate 80 at the Iowa 1 interchange in Iowa city during the overnight hours Wednesday, Sept. 30 and Thursday, Oct. 1, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Cedar Rapids construction office.

Removal of the old bridge decks on Iowa 1 over I-80 will cause one eastbound lane of I-80 to be closed from 9 p.m. Sept. 30 to 6 a.m. Oct. 1. One westbound lane will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. Oct. 1 to 6 a.m. Oct. 2.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
