Access to Iowa 188 (140th Street) west of U.S. 63 in Bremer County closed for two weeks beginning Oct. 29

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Oct. 23, 2009 – Continued road work on U.S. 63 in Bremer County will close access to Iowa 188 (140th Street) west of U.S. 63 beginning Oct. 29, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) New Hampton construction office.

This closure is necessary to allow the paving contractor to complete the turn lane and median concrete paving in the southbound portion of the intersection. During this closure, Iowa188 traffic will be detoured onto the existing U.S. 63  lanes for one mile and access the current U.S. 63 lanes at 130th Street. There will be static and changeable message signs in place to direct traffic.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
