Iowa DOT provides emergency assistance to some western Iowa counties


AMES, Iowa – Dec. 29, 2009 – Operating under an emergency declaration, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is presently assisting Crawford, Harrison, Pottawattamie, and Shelby counties dig out from the recent  winter storm. The Governor’s State of Emergency Disaster Proclamation allows state resources to be deployed to assist local governments in restoring service on public roadways.

Responding to requests from Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Iowa DOT snowplow trucks, snowblowers, supplies, and personnel have moved into the counties to assist with traffic control and clearing of the public roadways still blocked by massive snow drifts and accumulating heavy snow.
