Iowa DOT issues final storm-related update
AMES, Iowa – Jan. 26, 2010; 4 p.m. update – The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is reporting that road conditions have significantly improved today following yesterday‘s blizzard. Tremendous progress was made throughout the day in reopening many impassable roads and restoring lanes of travel.
Iowa 7 from U.S. 71 east to Newell is the last roadway that still remains impassable due to multiple semi-tractor trailer units stuck in the snow. Tow trucks are presently at work in the area and removal of the vehicles is expected to last until approximately 6 p.m. Then Iowa DOT road crews will perform necessary cleanup and return the roadway to service this evening.
The Iowa DOT wishes to express its appreciation for the cooperation it received from the public, the Iowa State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies during the blizzard.
A special word of thanks is extended to the many truck drivers who heeded the department’s advisories and temporarily delayed their travels last night so that everyone arrived at their destinations safely.
