I-29 southbound remains closed south of Sioux City, other road conditions improving
AMES, Iowa – Feb. 16, 2010 – 8 a.m. – The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is reporting that road conditions continue to improve in western Iowa, but many Iowa roads remain partially to completely snow and ice covered.
Interstate 29 closure
Southbound I-29 from the Singing Hills Boulevard interchange in Sioux City (exit 143) to the Onawa interchange (exit 112) remains closed this morning. Crews are in the process of treating dangerous icy sections of this roadway. SouthboundI-29 south of Onawa and all northbound lanes of I-29 presently remain open.
Travelers are warned that use of unofficial detours on county roads in Woodbury and Monona counties may lead you into trouble because the roads could be impassable.
Regular updates
Lane restrictions and closing of roadways is a dynamic situation as crews throughout the state work to remove blockages. Therefore, the Iowa DOT issues periodic updates throughout today, as warranted. The information provided in this advisory is accurate at the time of issuance; however, the reopening of roads or discovery of new blockages may occur before the next advisory is issued.

- U.S. 59 from U.S. 20 (Holstein) south to U.S. 30 (Denison)
- U.S. 69 from Decatur County Road J-20 north to U.S. 34
- U.S. 71 from Auburn north to Iowa 7
- Iowa 3 from Iowa 143 (Marcus) east to U.S. 169 (Humboldt) (route extends through Cherokee, Buena Vista, Pocahontas, and Humboldt counties and is down to one lane in several locations)
- Iowa 3 from Akron east to Plymouth County Road K-22
- Iowa 4/Iowa 175 from Calhoun County Road N-41 (Lake City) east to County Road N-65 (Lohrville)
- Iowa 7 from U.S. 71 (Lakeside) east to Calhoun County Road N-65 (Manson)
- Iowa 10 from Clay County Road M-27 (Peterson) east to Iowa 4 (Havelock)
- Iowa 39 from Crawford County Road E-16 (Kiron) north to Iowa 175 (Odebolt)
- Iowa 44 from Iowa 173 (Kimballton) east to U.S. 71 (Hamlin)
- Iowa 83 from U.S. 59 (Avoca) east to U.S. 6 (Atlantic)
- Iowa 141 from U.S. 59 east to Manning
