Iowa DOT travel update
AMES, Iowa – Feb. 17, 2010 – 1 p.m. – The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is reporting that roads in northern Iowa remain partially or completely covered with snow and ice. Patches of packed ice are causing slick driving conditions in many locations throughout the state.
Breezy conditions, with winds gusting to 21 mph, will continue to cause some drifting and surface-level blowing of snow.
Some roadways in northwest Iowa are still reduced to one lane of travel and will remain that way until large snowblowers can clear the drifts. The travel lanes of other roadways in western Iowa are narrow, and it will take time for crews to widen them and remove snow from the shoulders.
Roads restricted to one lane
In addition to the state-maintained roads listed here, other local streets and county roads may be restricted or impassable due to blowing and drifting snow.
- U.S. 20 from Ida County Road M-25 (Galva) to Sac City
- U.S. 59 from U.S. 20 (Holstein) south to U.S. 30 (Denison)
- Iowa 44 from U.S. 59 (Harlan) east to Iowa 173 (Kimballton)
