Road conditions improving slowly in western Iowa

AMES, Iowa – Feb. 16, 2010 – 5 p.m. – The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is reporting that road conditions have improved somewhat in western Iowa, but several two-lane roads remain restricted to one lane until specialized equipment can be brought in to clear the second lane.

Many of the roadways in western Iowa are open to two lanes of traffic, but the shoulders are not cleared of drifts at this time. While these roads are open, the travel lanes are very narrow and caution should be used.

Regular updates

Lane restrictions and closing of roadways is a dynamic situation as crews throughout the state work to remove blockages. The restrictions listed in this notice are not expected to change overnight. Crews will be working to maintain at least one lane of travel, but two-lane travel will not be restored until specialized equipment can be brought in from other parts of the state. Updates will be provided on Wednesday as conditions continue to improve.

Roads restricted to one lane
In addition to the state-maintained roads listed here, other local streets and county roads may be restricted or impassable due to blowing and drifting snow.
