Iowa DOT monitoring rising water near Boone

AMES, Iowa – June 28, 2010 – Officials with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) are closely monitoring the Des Moines River levels as flood waters encroach on the shoulders of U.S. 30 west of Boone.

Because the rate of rising water levels can be unpredictable, Iowa DOT crews are preparing to close the roadway if waters begin to threaten motorists’ safety by covering the roadway and/or bridges.  A closing of U.S. 30 is possible this evening.

This area is prone to flooding and has in the past been closed for several days until the water recedes, the debris can be removed and bridges are inspected.
