Lane restrictions on U.S. 59 begin Sept. 8
CHEROKEE, Iowa – Aug. 30, 2010 – Two separate road maintenance projects on U.S. 59 will require lane and width limit restrictions through the work zones, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 8, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Cherokee construction office. Motorists will be assisted by flaggers and pilot cars for both projects.
· U.S. 59 between U.S. 30 near Denison, and Ida County Road D-54, one mile north of Schleswig, will reduce the roadway to one lane with a 12-foot lane width restriction in the work zone beginning Wednesday, Sept. 8 until Thursday, Sept 30.
· U.S. 59 between Iowa 175, near Ida Grove, and U.S. 20, near Holstein, will reduce the roadway to one lane with a 12-foot lane width restriction in the work zone beginning Tuesday, Sept. 14 until Thursday, Sept. 30.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
