Iowa DOT News Release

Lane restrictions on Iowa 1 at the Burlington Street bridge in Iowa City begin tonight

Posted on: September 27, 2010

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Sept. 27, 2010 – Construction work will cause lane restrictions on southbound lanes of Iowa 1 at the Burlington Street bridge over the Iowa River in Iowa City beginning tonight at 7 p.m., weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Cedar Rapids construction office. Motorists should follow the marked detours.

The contractor will begin grooving the bridge deck tonight. This is the last item of work before the project is completed Friday, Oct. 1, at 6 a.m.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
