Iowa Transportation Commission approves $5 million for Iowa transit systems
AMES, Iowa – Jan. 11, 2011 –The Iowa Transportation Commission today approved $5 million in projects to assist the state’s transit agencies in replacing vehicles.
The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) was awarded $5 million for transit rolling stock replacement projects under the Fiscal Year 2010 federal Bus and Bus Facilities program in support of the State of Good Repair Initiative. Allocation of funding to specific projects follows procedures established in the Public Transit Equipment and Facilities Management System (PTMS), which were developed cooperatively between the Iowa DOT and Iowa Public Transit Association (IPTA) in response to the requirements of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991. The PTMS is endorsed by IPTA, adopted by the Iowa DOT and approved by the Commission.
A total of 50 vehicles, belonging to 17 transit agencies, were selected for replacement using the technical ranking process under the PTMS. The complete list of projects can be found at http://www.iowadot.gov/transit/.
