Construction work on U.S. 169 in Humboldt and Webster counties begins April 4

JEFFERSON, Iowa – March 23, 2011 – Road construction work on U.S. 169 in Humboldt and Webster counties will cause traffic restrictions beginning 7 a.m. Monday, April 4, until Oct. 15, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Jefferson construction office.

  • Both directions of U.S. 169 will be closed between Humboldt County Road C-49 one mile south of Humboldt and Iowa 3 near Dakota City to allow for construction of right turn lanes and box culverts. Traffic will be detoured around the project using Humboldt County roads C-49 and P-29 and Iowa 3.

  • Southbound U.S. 169 between Webster County Road D-20 and Iowa 7 near
Fort Dodge will be closed for reconstruction and replacement of three bridges. Traffic will be detoured into a head-to-head pattern. The entrance and exit ramps for southbound Iowa 926 will also be closed during this period.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
