Environmental impacts of the I-80/I-29 project in Council Bluffs to be discussed March 31


AMES, Iowa – March 22, 2010 – The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) will hold a public hearing Thursday, March 31, in Council Bluffs to present the environmental assessment (EA) prepared for the proposed improvement of Segment 3 of the Council Bluffs Interstate System. Segment 3 begins on Interstate-80/29 just east of the Indian Creek bridge and proceeds to northeast of the Madison Avenue interchange. It also includes I-29 from south of the U.S. 275/Iowa 92 interchange north to and including the east I-80/I-29 interchange (east system interchange). The Iowa DOT will also present an update on the project’s progress and gather feedback from the public about the improvement and the EA.

The hearing will be held in Rooms K and L of the Mid-America Center, One Arena Way, in Council Bluffs. A combined open forum and formal format will be utilized. Iowa DOT staff will be available between 5 and 6 p.m. to informally discuss the project.

A formal presentation will begin at 6 p.m. There will be a three minute limit per speaker during the formal question-and-answer session. Persons wishing to make a formal presentation will need to so designate at the time of registration at the hearing.
