Lane restrictions on I-74 near Bettendorf begin April 4

DAVENPORT, Iowa – March 25, 2011 – A bridge washing and rehabilitation project on Interstate 74 over the Mississippi River in Bettendorf and Moline will restrict traffic to one lane beginning Monday, April 4, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Davenport construction office. Motorists should be prepared for some delays in the work zones.

Bridge washing is scheduled to begin April 4 with lane closures in both directions of I-74 between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily. Bridge rehabilitation work in both directions of the I-74 Mississippi River bridge is scheduled to begin May 7, with lane closures occurring any time, day or night, until Oct. 24, weather permitting. An 8-foot-6-inch width lane restriction will be in place for this project.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.  As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
