Iowa 1 lanes restricted in Jefferson and Keokuk counties begin May 3


FAIRFIELD, Iowa – April 28, 2011 – A pavement patching project on Iowa 1 will restrict traffic to one lane between Iowa 16 near Fairfield, in Jefferson County, and Iowa 78 near Richland, in Keokuk County, beginning Tuesday, May 3, until Wednesday, June 15, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Fairfield construction office.

The contractor will be working during from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily. Flaggers will assist traffic through the work area. A 12-foot width lane restriction will be in place in the open lane. Normal driving conditions will resume when workers are not present.

TEK Builder Inc. of Mount Ayr, Iowa, is the prime contractor for the $260,000 patching project.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
