Lane restrictions on Iowa 78 in Henry and Louisa counties begin May 3


FAIRFIELD, Iowa – April 28, 2011 – Road construction work on Iowa 78 will restrict traffic to one lane between U.S. 218/Iowa 7 near Olds and U.S. 61/Louisa County Road H-22 near Morning Sun beginning Tuesday, May 3, until Friday, June 3, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Fairfield construction office.

The contractor will be working during from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Flaggers will assist traffic through the work area. An 11-foot width lane restriction will be in place in the open lane. Normal driving conditions will resume when workers are not present.

Midwest Contractor’s Inc. of Cedar Falls, Iowa, is the prime contractor for the $600,000 patching project.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
