Road construction continues on U.S. 30 in Boone and Story counties
AMES, Iowa – June 29, 2011 – Road construction continues on U.S. 30 from 230th Street in Boone County east to University Boulevard in Ames, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Des Moines Construction office.
Beginning Tuesday, July 5, head-to-head traffic patterns will be extended to the west end of the project at 230th Street in Boone County. During this phase of construction, traffic will be in a head-to-head pattern and use the existing westbound U.S. 30 lanes. Access to adjacent properties will be limited between 230th Street and X Avenue during construction. Specifically, all access to businesses and residents south of U.S. 30 will be gained by traveling on local roads. Access to businesses and residents north of U.S. 30 will also be limited and no left turns will be permitted at the intersections between 230th Street and X Avenue, which will provide a safer construction zone.
The Iowa DOT expects to be in this phase of construction until the end of August, weather permitting.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
