Heavy rainfall closes several roads in northeast Iowa
AMES, Iowa – July 28, 2011 – The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is reporting that a number of roadways in northeast Iowa have been affected by flooding due to the heavy rain. Storms dumped more than 10 inches of rain in Dubuque County and over 3 inches in Delaware County. Heavy rain was also reported in nearby Jackson and Jones counties. Several vehicles have been reported stranded in the quick-rising flood waters.
Conditions can change rapidly under the flash flooding circumstances. Drivers should monitor conditions closely and never enter a water-covered roadway. Turn around, don’t drown.
At the present time, the following roadways are reported closed due to flooding in the region. Expect short-term closures and additional closures throughout the morning.
- U.S. 20, at the 308 mile marker, near Peosta in Dubuque County
- U.S. 20 eastbound lanes only, from exit 313 to the Illinois state line, in Dubuque
- U.S. 20, eastbound at Dodge Street in Dubuque
- U.S. 52 between Dubuque County Roads D-10 (near Sageville) and Y-21 (near Rickardsville)
- U.S. 151 near Fillmore in Dubuque County
