Direct access to Bremer County Road C-50 from Fairview Avenue in Janesville to permanently close Sept. 1

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Aug. 29, 2011 – Direct access from Fairview Avenue to Bremer County Road C-50 in Janesville will be permanently closed beginning Thursday, Sept. 1, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) New Hampton construction office.

This closure will allow the grading contractor to start building the new U.S. 218 interchange with C-50 in Janesville. To access C-50 from Fairview Avenue, motorists will need to travel east on 270th Street and then south on Garden Avenue. This phase of construction will not affect north or southbound traffic on U.S. 218.

This interchange project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2012.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
