Iowa DOT News Release

Iowa DOT to reopen Iowa 9 bridge over the Mississippi River at Lansing today

Posted on: August 23, 2011

AMES, Iowa – Aug. 23, 2011, 1:15 p.m. – The Black Hawk Bridge carrying Iowa 9 over the Mississippi River at Lansing in Allamakee County will reopen to traffic later today, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) office in Ames.

Lane restrictions will be in place during the daylight hours until the bridge maintenance work is completed Aug. 26. Motorists should expect brief delays.

The Black Hawk Bridge was closed Aug. 17 because a consultant found a crack in the floor beam under the bridge deck during a routine inspection.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
