Vehicle odometer tampering suspect arrested
ANKENY, Iowa – Sept. 23, 2011 – On Wednesday Sept. 21, investigators with the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Office of Motor Vehicle Enforcement arrested Gerald Magee in Des Moines on a warrant for eight counts of fraudulent practice in the second degree, a Class D Felony. Magee, 49, is accused of tampering with and reducing the mileage on the odometers of eight motor vehicles that were sold to unsuspecting buyers.
Anyone who purchased a vehicle from Magee and suspects the mileage of the vehicle may have been altered, please contact the Iowa DOT’s Office of Motor Vehicle Enforcement at 866-908-4636 or at [email protected].
A Class D Felony is punishable by up to five years in prison and up to $7,500 in fines. This investigation was conducted with the assistance of the Iowa Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Protection Division.
