Iowa DOT News Release

Loop closure at I-80/U.S. 218 interchange in Johnson County tonight

Posted on: November 17, 2011

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Nov. 17, 2011 – Due to road repair work, the loop from westbound Interstate 80 to southbound U.S. 218 at exit 239 will be closed Thursday, Nov. 17, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Cedar Rapids construction office.

Traffic will be detoured to the Tiffin interchange at exit 237, then back onto eastbound I-80 to get to southbound U.S. 218 at exit 239. Motorists are asked to follow the marked detours during this closure.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
