Bridge work restricts lanes on Lansing Bridge beginning March 26
MASON CITY, Iowa – March 20, 2012 – Bridge maintenance work will restrict lanes during daylight hours on the Iowa 9 bridge between Lansing, Iowa and Wisconsin beginning March 26, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Mason City maintenance office.
The routine work to be performed includes inspection of pin and hangar connections and retrofitting floor beams. The work will require closing one lane of traffic to accommodate bridge inspection equipment.
When workers are present, the roadway will be restricted to one lane, with traffic being assisted by flaggers. The open lane will have a 9-foot width restriction. The bridge project is expected to be completed sometime March 29.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
