Scheduled electrical outage to affect Iowa DOT services
AMES, Iowa – July 27, 2012 - The Iowa Department of Transportation is announcing a planned electrical outage at its headquarters in Ames beginning 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, and continuing until to 2 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The outage is associated with scheduled electrical service upgrades and maintenance. Customers and employees are being notified in advance so they can plan accordingly.
The Iowa DOT’s headquarters provides communications and technology services for many of its operations statewide. The outage will affect the following services and systems.
- Landline phones (Ames locations only)
- Fax lines
- Email (all Iowa DOT email)
- Website (the department’s entire website and hosted applications)
- Online electronic forms (If needed, customers may download and print any required forms prior to the outage.)

The Iowa DOT will be issuing driver’s licenses on Saturday, Aug. 11, during normal business hours.
Commercial vehicle operators must plan ahead to obtain oversize load and other permits. The EZ-Permit system and fax line will be unavailable.
