Lane restrictions on Business U.S. 61/Avenue G in Fort Madison begin Oct. 3

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – Sept. 27, 2012 – A concrete replacement project at the intersection of Business U.S. 61/Avenue G (just north of the BNSF Railroad bridge over the Mississippi River) in Fort Madison will cause lane restrictions beginning Wednesday, Oct. 3, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mount Pleasant construction office.

The open lanes will have a 12-foot width lane restriction in place. Shipley Construction Co. is the contractor for this project.

Construction is expected to be completed by mid-November.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
