New interchange at Iowa 3/U.S. 63 east of Waverly will be opened early next week

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Sept. 14, 2012 – The new interchange at the intersection of Iowa 3/U.S. 63 east of Waverly will be fully open to traffic early next week, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

Also, U.S. 63 will be open to four-lane traffic for 1.3 miles north of the new intersection. At that point traffic will return to a two-lane/two-way pattern for approximately 2.3 miles and then return to four lanes through the end of the project.

Motorists approaching U.S. 63 from side roads should be alert for U.S. 63 traffic on the newly-opened traffic lanes and for changes in traffic patterns and stop sign locations. U.S. 63 will open to all four-lane traffic in late October, weather permitting.

Construction at the side roads will still require occasional lane closures in the southbound lanes of U.S. 63. Drivers need to be aware of this work and obey all traffic signs.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
