Update – eastbound I-80 to northbound I-35/80 exit ramp in West Des Moines to close Sept. 21

DES MOINES, Iowa – Sept. 20, 2012 – Bridge work on the eastbound Interstate 80 to northbound I-35/80 exit ramp (exit 123B) over Interstate 35 will require closing the ramp at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, until 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Des Moines Construction office.

Motorists should follow the marked detour around the construction zone on I-235. Traffic control devices will be in place, as well as digital message signs on I-80. There is a 15-foot-3-inch height restriction in place on the I-235 detour. Loads over 15 feet 3 inches high should exit from I-80 south to I-35 and travel to Iowa 5 east (exit 68), then continue east and north on Iowa 5/U.S. 65 to I-80.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
