Iowa DOT News Release

Southbound U.S. 63 traffic patterns to change Monday afternoon

Posted on: October 10, 2012

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Oct. 10, 2012 – UPDATE– Traffic on southbound U.S. 63 east of Waverly will be shifted to the newly constructed roadway beginning Monday afternoon, Oct. 15, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office. The shift was originally scheduled to take place on Friday, Oct. 12.

The 2.3-mile segment of new roadway will be open starting 1.3 miles north of the new interchange at Iowa 3 and U.S. 63 east of Waverly. Intermittent lane closures will remain in place at times on north- and southbound U.S. 63 for construction of field approaches and removal of the median crossovers. Travelers on U.S. 63 should expect intermittent closures for this work over the next several weeks. Once this work has been completed, U.S. 63 will function as a four-lane roadway from Waterloo to New Hampton.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
