Grand Avenue and I-35 Ramp Closures in West Des Moines Begin May 2 #iatraffic
DES MOINES, Iowa – April 30, 2013 – Work continues on the capacity improvement project on Interstate 35 in West Des Moines. The next phase of the project requires shifting traffic onto the median area constructed last year and closing the Grand Avenue ramps on the west side of southbound I-35 for the construction season beginning Thursday, May 2, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Des Moines construction office. Motorists should follow the marked detour routes during this closure.
The eastbound Grand Avenue to northbound I-35 ramp will be closed for up to two weeks to allow for construction of temporary pavement and then reopen to traffic.
Motorists on southbound I-35 will not have access to or from Grand Avenue until late fall 2013.
The southbound phase of construction is expected to be completed by November 25. The northbound I-35 project will begin next spring.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
