Iowa DOT News Release

Posted on: April 26, 2013

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – April 25, 2013 – A section of U.S. 63 between Newell/Conger Street and Donald Street in Waterloo will be closed at 6:30 a.m. Monday, May 6, to allow for work on the CN’s railroad track and underground utilities, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

This road closure is needed for completing the initial work in preparation for the reconstruction of U.S. 63 from Newell Street to Donald Street. The entire project will take place over a two-year period.

Motorists will be asked to follow the marked detour around the closure using U.S. 63, U.S. 218, Broadway Street, Airport Boulevard and Airport Road.

This detour is expected to be in effect until early June, weather permitting.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
