Iowa DOT Warns Motorists to Not Enter Closed Roadways

AMES, Iowa – May 23, 2013 – The Iowa Department of Transportation has placed signs, barricades, fencing and other road closure devices at locations on Iowa 9 west of Osage where the roadway was damaged by flooding earlier this week. These traffic control devices are there for a reason, to protect the public.

Opening, moving, removing, damaging, altering walking or driving around these road closure devices in any way is not only against the law, it can be extremely dangerous. The ground around this area is very unstable and could give way at any moment. Going around a barricade could cost you more than the traffic fines … it could cost you your life.

The Iowa DOT is requesting the public’s help in reporting any illegal activity in this area to local law enforcement for prosecution.
