Iowa DOT Offices Closed for Fourth of July Holiday

AMES, Iowa – June 20, 2013 – The Iowa Department of Transportation will be closing offices on the Fourth of July holiday.

All business locations will be closed Thursday, July 4.

Iowa DOT driver's license stations
All Iowa DOT driver's license stations will be closed Thursday, July 4, and will reopen Friday, July 5, at 8:30 a.m.

Office of Vehicle and Motor Carrier Services
The Iowa DOT’s Office of Vehicle and Motor Carrier Services, normally open Monday through Friday, will close at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, and reopen at 8 a.m. Friday, July 5. This includes the permit center.

The Iowa DOT recommends commercial vehicle operators plan ahead if they will need services from the Iowa DOT around the Fourth of July holiday. Commercial vehicle operators needing fuel or trip permits for travel in Iowa during the Fourth of July should obtain them prior to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3.

No movement of oversize loads will be permitted in Iowa from noon Wednesday, July 3, until 30 minutes prior to sunrise on Friday, July 5.

Because the permit center typically experiences a heavy workload on the day following a holiday, customers are urged to submit applications for oversize permits, especially those more than 156,000 pounds, several days before needing the permit.

The permit center, located at 6310 SE Convenience Blvd. in Ankeny, is a one-stop source for fuel, trip and oversize load permits; International Registration Plan (IRP) registration; International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) licensing; and travel authority needed by motor carriers and commercial vehicle operators to operate in Iowa.
