MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – Sept. 24, 2013 – Road construction work on U.S. 61 and 180th Street in Lee County, just south of Wever, begins Friday, Sept. 27, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mount Pleasant construction office.

The project will require traffic on U.S. 61 to be restricted to one lane in each direction at the 180th Street intersection, with a 12-foot width lane restriction in place, and temporary closure of 180th Street at the intersection beginning Monday, Sept. 30.

The road construction work includes extending the left-turn lane for southbound U.S. 61, constructing a right-turn lane for northbound U.S. 61, and paving approximately 120 feet of 180th Street.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-October.

The contractor on this project is Shipley Construction Co. of Burlington, Iowa.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
