Westbound I-80 at U.S. 6/U.S. 65 and Hubbell Avenue interchange near Altoona restricted for emergency repairs #iatraffic
DES MOINES, Iowa – Oct. 31, 2013 – An oversize load traveling north on U.S. 65 today damaged the westbound Interstate 80 mainline bridge at the Altoona interchange (exit 142), according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
Westbound I-80 traffic will be restricted to the right lane, so emergency repairs can be made to the bridge.
Westbound I-80 motorists should expect traffic delays until the bridge repairs are completed and may want to consider taking alternate routes to avoid delays.
Emergency repairs are expected to be completed by Friday, Nov. 8.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
