Update - Westbound I-80 ramps at U.S. 65 near Altoona to close April 3 #iatraffic
DES MOINES, Iowa – March 28, 2014 – Contractors will be closing the westbound Interstate 80 exit ramp to U.S. 65/U.S. 6/Hubbell Avenue and the U.S. 65/U.S. 6 entrance ramp to westbound I-80 near Altoona to reconstruct the ramps beginning at 11 p.m. Thursday, April 3, until mid-May, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Des Moines construction office.
Motorists traveling from Hubbell Avenue to westbound I-80 and those from westbound I-80 to Hubbell Avenue will follow the signed detour (see map). This ramp reconstruction project is part of the larger multiphase project to replace the I-80 interchange (exit 142) near Adventureland. Digital message boards will be placed as a reminder of the upcoming ramp closures.
Traffic on westbound I-80 will be shifted onto the new eastbound lanes that were constructed last year. There will also be some associated short-term nighttime lane closures.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
