U.S. 169 detour route in Kossuth County changing Monday for widening and resurfacing project #iatraffic


BRITT, Iowa – April 23, 2014 – The detour for a Portland cement concrete pavement widening and resurfacing project on U.S. 169 in Kossuth County will change (see map) beginning Monday, April 28, until Friday, May 9, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Britt construction office. 

  • From April 28 until May 9: Traffic will be detoured at the west junction of U.S. 169 and Iowa 9 west on Iowa 9,   north on Kossuth County Road P-30 from Swea City to just south of the Minnesota state line, and then east on Kossuth County Road A-16 to U.S. 169.

  • From May 9 until October 2014: Traffic will be detoured at the west junction of U.S. 169 and Iowa 9 west on Iowa 9 north on Kossuth County Road P-30 from Swea City into Minnesota where it continues north on Minnesota’s Martin County Road 53, and then east on Martin County Road 8 and Faribault County Road 2 back to U.S. 169.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
