Update: Lane closures and restrictions continue on northbound I-380/U.S. 218 near San Marnan Drive in Black Hawk County #iatraffic

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – May 20, 2014 – Progress on the bridge approach work on southbound Interstate 380 in Waterloo at the San Marnan Drive interchange will allow the contractor to open an additional lane in this location overnight tonight, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office. Southbound I-380 traffic will now have two through lanes in this area.

The contractor closed a second lane for northbound I-380 traffic Monday night, May 19, leaving one through lane. This closure will remain in place for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

Motorists should anticipate traffic delays due to slow or stopped traffic and the Iowa DOT recommends they consider alternate routes to avoid the congestion.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
