Southbound I-380/U.S. 218 on-ramp at San Marnan Drive to close at 7 p.m. tonight #iatraffic

Posted on: August 26, 2014

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Aug. 26, 2014 – In an effort to beat the rain in the forecast, the Iowa Department of Transportation will close the southbound I-380/U.S. 218 on-ramp at San Marnan Drive (exit 72) at 7 p.m. tonight instead of 9 p.m. that was previously scheduled, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

This earlier closure is being made to allow the contractor to complete the paving of the ramp before thunderstorms move into the area, which are in the forecast for later this evening. The ramp will be open by 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

During this closure, traffic will be redirected and the detours marked with both static signs and changeable message boards.

Motorists should be alert for the possibility of slow or stopped traffic when approaching this area. To avoid congestion, the Iowa DOT advises drivers to consider taking alternate routes.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
