Iowa DOT seeks additional public input on commuter transportation needs

AMES, Iowa – Oct. 22, 2014 – The Iowa Department of Transportation was pleased by the response to the initial commuter transportation needs survey, which received 619 completed survey responses. Now Iowa DOT is asking for you to provide additional input on potential commuter transportation service enhancements for the eastern Iowa counties of Johnson, Linn, Benton, Jones, Iowa, Cedar, and Washington.

How can you help?
Complete the Iowa DOT’s online survey designed to gather information about the commuter transportation service enhancements in eastern Iowa. Your input will be helpful in the recommendations process. You can access the online survey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/IowaCommuterSurvey2.

Why another survey?
The second survey is a way to ask additional questions based on previous feedback in order to understand the public needs. Thousands of people commute along the Interstate 380 corridor daily and online surveys are effective ways to gather input from those interested in commuter transportation. Online surveys are just one component of the Iowa Commuter Transportation Study commissioned to identify and evaluate alternatives for commuter transportation across the state of Iowa but with a focus on one of Iowa’s major travel corridors.

The Iowa DOT is interested in alternatives that enhance mobility options and expand transportation options for commuters. To accomplish this, the Iowa Commuter Transportation Study will identify the existing and future commuter needs in the corridor and determine the viability of various commuter transportation alternatives to address those needs.

This is the second of two surveys released. It is open from Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, through Monday, Nov. 17, 2014. The input received in both surveys will help the study team to identify needs and develop recommendations. Please take a few minutes to provide your input.

Public open house meeting scheduled
In addition to the online survey, the Iowa DOT will be hosting a public open house meeting to share information and gather input on the Iowa Commuter Transportation Study. The public open house meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Cedar Rapids Public Library, 450 Fifth Avenue SE, in Cedar Rapids.

Preliminary results from the second survey will be presented at the open house. A summary report of the initial commuter transportation needs survey is available online at: http://www.iowadot.gov/commuterstudy/pdfs/2014%2010%2015_ICTS_Needs%20Survey_ResultsSummary.pdf.
