Update: Lane and ramp closures on I-235 in West Des Moines scheduled Oct. 31- Nov. 3 #iatraffic


DES MOINES, Iowa – Oct. 30, 2014 – A bridge construction project on Interstate 235 between 60th Street (exit 122) and I-235/I-35/I-80 (exit 123) in West Des Moines will require lane and ramp closures beginning Friday, Oct. 31, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Des Moines construction office.

This weekend, the closures will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, and will be in place until 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3.

Oct. 31 – Nov. 3 traffic impacts

  • I-235 traffic will be restricted to one lane in both the west- and eastbound directions at the west mixmaster in West Des Moines.
  • Westbound I-235 will have an 11-foot-4-inch width lane restriction will be in place in the open lane.
  • The northbound I-35 loop ramp to westbound I-80 will be closed. Motorists should follow the signed detour.
  • The westbound I-235 loop ramp to southbound I-35 will be closed. Motorists should follow the singed detour.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
