Interchange Justification Report for I-35/I-80 and Iowa 141 now available for review #iatraffic
AMES, Iowa – July 17, 2015 – A draft Interchange Justification Report for the proposed safety improvement project at the Interchange of I-35/I-80 and Iowa 141 and the addition of a new service interchange at Northwest 100th Street in Polk County is available for review, according the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 1 office in Ames.
The preferred alternative is identified in the document as Alternative 2. This alternative best met the operational goals for the 2040 forecasted traffic and provided additional safety benefits to the system. This alternative includes adding a flyover ramp from northbound I-35/I-80 to northbound Iowa 141, removing the loop ramps at the I-35/I-80 and Iowa 141 interchange and adding a half diamond interchange at Meredith Drive. The alternative also includes a full diamond interchange at Northwest 100th Street.
These Interstate improvements are required to be approved by the Federal Highway Administration. The documentation of that review is the formal Interchange Justification Reporting process.
A copy of the draft report can be reviewed here or a hard copy will be made available for review at the Iowa DOT’s District 1 office at 1020 S. 4th Street, Ames, Iowa.
