NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – July 28, 2015 – Plans to change the lane restrictions currently in place on the bridge joint repair project at the Interstate 380/U.S. 20/ U.S. 218 interchange will not take place this week as originally expected, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.
Construction complications will delay widening the open lane for southbound I-380 traffic on southbound I-380/U.S. 218 to the eastbound U.S. 20 ramp. The open lane will continue to have a 9-foot-6-inch lane width restriction until further notice.
This will also delay widening the open lane for eastbound U.S. 20 traffic from just west of exit 232A at the I-380/U.S 20/U.S. 218 interchange to the River Forest Road interchange. The open lane at this location will continue to have a 10-foot-5-inch lane width restriction.
The Iowa DOT will provide the revised schedule for widening these lanes as soon as it is available.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
