Iowa 26 near Lansing to close Aug. 10 for excavation work #iatraffic

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Aug. 6, 2015 – Iowa 26 near the north city limits of Lansing will be closed for excavation of a rock bluff beginning Monday, Aug. 10, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

Iowa 26 traffic will be routed on a marked detour utilizing city streets from the intersection of Main Street in Lansing. Because a section of Front Street is very narrow, temporary traffic signals will be in place in that area to assist with alternating traffic. Motorists are also urged to use caution on Front Street as a rail line runs along the east edge of the roadway.

The project is expected to be completed and the route reopened to traffic by mid-October.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
