Intermittent nighttime complete closure of northbound U.S. 218 at the Black Hawk County Road C-57 interchange begins Sept. 29 #iatraffic

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Sept. 25, 2015 – To place bridge beams over the northbound U.S. 218 lanes at the future U.S. 218/Black Hawk County Road C-57 interchange, short-term nighttime intermittent closure of both lanes on northbound U.S. 218 will be required between 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, and 5 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

Traffic impacts

  • Short-term northbound closures will last up to 20 minutes each.
  • Traffic will be allowed to clear and use the northbound lanes of U.S. 218 before the next short-term closure occurs.
  • No detour route will be in place.
  • Law enforcement will be present to help direct traffic.

The new interchange construction project began April 1, 2015, and has an estimated completion date of Nov. 13, 2016. JB Holland Construction Inc. of Decorah, Iowa, is the contractor for the more than $14.1 million project.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
