GRIMES, Iowa – March 29, 2016 – Work to replace the Northeast 54th Avenue bridge over Interstate 35 in Polk County will require closing the road and bridge to traffic beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, April 4, weather permitting, according to the Grimes construction office.
Traffic will be detoured around the 54th Avenue closure using Northeast 22nd Street (Delaware Avenue), Southeast Corporate Woods Drive, and Southeast Four Mile Drive (Northeast 28th Street). Detour map and project information is available online at: www.iowadot.gov/roadconstruction/MajorProjects/?rank=18.
The bridge and Northeast 54th Avenue will reopen to traffic in late November 2016.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
