NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – April 27, 2016 – Roadway resurfacing work within the city of Calmar on U.S. 52, Iowa 24, and Iowa 150 will require intermittent road and lane closures beginning Monday, May 2, until mid-September, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.
Traffic impacts
- Work will include excavation for utilities, patching, sidewalk replacements, and roadway resurfacing.
- The work will be completed in stages on all routes with initial lane closures affecting motorists traveling on Iowa 150 into Calmar from the south and those on U.S. 52 exiting Calmar to the north.
- Traffic will be assisted through work zones with flaggers and a pilot car.
- The contractor’s lane closures will be restricted to one lane of through traffic on one of the routes any given work day.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
