Iowa DOT auction to be held June 11


AMES, Iowa – May 20, 2016 – More than 125 vehicles and a variety of shop items will be sold by the Iowa Department of Transportation at an auction Saturday, June 11, beginning at 9 a.m. in Ames. 

Complete information about the auction has been posted on the Iowa DOT’s website at www.iowadot.gov/auction/.

The sale will be held in the auction building south of the Iowa DOT's sign shop on South Fourth Street. Vehicles and equipment to be sold are from the Iowa DOT, Iowa State University, cities, and counties. 

All items are sold “as is” and without warranty, all known defects are clearly disclosed.

Large trucks up for sale include International 4900s, International 4700s, wheel loaders, a roto grader, a semi-tractor and a street sweeper.

Vehicles to be sold include dozens of sedans, station wagons, vans, and minivans.

Miscellaneous equipment in the auction includes tanks, tool boxes, v-plows, trailers, brooms, cabinets, arrow boards and much more.

Auction items may be inspected at the sale site from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, June 10, and from 7 to 9 a.m. the day of the sale. When needed, “in transit” paper license plates will be furnished by the Iowa DOT after final settlement has been made. 

Please bring a driver’s license with you to the sale. The information from your driver’s license will be used to generate a bid number for use at the auction. For those without a driver’s license, information will be entered manually.

Buyers are encouraged to make final settlements on the day of the sale. Each successful bidder must furnish a $200 deposit for each vehicle that is not paid for in full on the day of the sale. Payment for the items must be made in cash, cashier's check, or certified check. Personal or company checks will be accepted, if accompanied by satisfactory identification. Items may be removed from the Iowa DOT grounds after full payment has been made and buyers have receipts for their purchases. All items purchased must be removed by Friday, June 17.

Sales tax will be collected. Dealers must provide tax-exemption numbers to be exempted from the tax.

Lynch Auction Co. of Boone will conduct the auction. Coffee, sandwiches, and cold drinks will be available for purchase at the auction site.
