Iowa DOT offices closed over Memorial Day weekend

AMES, Iowa – May 13, 2016 – All Iowa Department of Transportation business locations will be closed Monday, May 30, in honor of Memorial Day.

Iowa DOT driver's license stations
All Iowa DOT driver’s license stations will be closed Saturday, May 28, and Monday, May 30 (offices are normally closed on Mondays). The stations will resume operations Tuesday, May 31, at 8:30 a.m.

Online services are available 24/7 at www.iowadot.gov. Customers can also access services at one of the Iowa DOT’s self-service kiosks. To view the list of kiosk locations, visit: www.iowadot.gov/mvd/ods/dlsites.htm.

Special note to motor carriers
The Iowa DOT recommends that commercial vehicle operators plan ahead if they will need services from the Iowa DOT around the Memorial Day weekend. Commercial vehicle operators who need oversize/overweight permits for travel in Iowa during the Memorial Day weekend should obtain them prior to 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 27.

No movements of oversize/overweight loads will be permitted in Iowa from noon Friday, May 27, until 30 minutes prior to sunrise on Tuesday, May 31.

Because the permit center typically experiences a heavy workload on the day following the holiday, customers are urged to submit applications for oversize/overweight permits, especially those more than 156,000 pounds, several days before needing the permit.
